Frequently Asked Questions/ about the SHUP Princeton Hunger Banquet
Is this a typical lunch fundraiser?
Absolutely not! The PHB is a unique event that not only is raising much needed funds, it is an interactive experience that will help shine a light on food insecurity in our community. We made the ticket price relatively low so we could include as many people and families as possible. Participants will be randomly assigned to sit in one of three sections… High End, Middle Tier and Lower Tier. The food and dining experience will be correspondingly different, to some extent reflecting what is actually happening in Princeton. There will be discussion at the tables, and student facilitators will be on hand to help spur the conversation along. This is a great way to introduce an important community issue to families with school aged children.
But I don’t want a low end meal?
Good point! Most people don’t, particularly those who have no choice. Most people will be in the middle and upper tiers, which is how it is in life. This event is perfect for people who want to give back, have a little fun playing along with the exercise and learn something about food insecurity. If you want to support the effort but would like to leave room for others at the event, by all means please send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know. We can release your seats for resale to others.
Will I need a Ticket?
There are no actual tickets to the PHB. When you pay online, we track your name and number of guests. All you need to do is arrive at Hinds Plaza at 1 PM on Sunday, September 20th, and you are good to go!
What is the attire?
This is a casual event… Kids can wear shorts or whatever they wear, and you can do the same.
How long is the event?
The PHB is scheduled to run from 1-3 pm
What happens if it rains?
The Princeton Public Library has been most gracious in letting us use the tents from their book fair the prior day, so we will go, rain or shine. The only caveat is the occurrence of a significant weather event. In the event it is not safe or practical to run the event, we will communicate with you via the email provided what the plan will be.
